project overview
Numa is a table lamp that resolves a tension most lighting doesn't address: the same space needs different light at different moments. Reading, working, unwinding: each asks for something distinct. Numa handles all of it without requiring a second lamp or a complicated interface.

the challenge
The brief was to design a lamp that reinterprets the relationship between user, light, and object through a single, adaptable source. The harder question was how to make that adaptability feel intuitive, not like a feature, but like a natural extension of using the object.

Solution
The solution is structural: an internal shutter mechanism sits behind the opal diffuser, allowing the user to direct the beam by physical adjustment rather than buttons or apps. Tilted open, the lamp floods the room with warm ambient light. Angled closed, it focuses into a concentrated focal beam. The form followed that logic. The dome sits on a polished chrome triangular base, a deliberate contrast between the soft, rounded diffuser and the sharp, geometric support. Presented as a fully resolved concept including moodboard, sketches, 3D render, and material specification.
